RIM
LAKES: Due to recent snow, expect limited access to most lakes.
Some ice cover can be expected on higher mountain lakes and streams.
Ice should be considered unsafe at this time of the year. The gates
on Interior roads are closed. Contact the US Forest Service’s Black
Mesa Ranger District office at (928) 535-7300 for up-to-date information
about road conditions.
CHEVELON
LAKE - Fishing is fair. Anglers might be able to access
the lake from the north 169 road. Ice may be forming on the lake.
Unsafe ice conditions. The lake is open to artificial lure and
fly only. Trout between 10 and 14 inches may not be possessed,
and the bag limit is 6 trout. Fly fishers have been catching rainbows.
Try lures such as Z-rays, Super Dupers, spinners (Panther Martin,
Rooster Tail, and Mepps), and Rapalas, and flies such as wooly
worms and wooly buggers in black or brown, Yeager buggers, semi-seal
leeches (black or brown), peacock ladies, prince nymphs, Zug bugs,
and other small nymphs. The lake is open to electric trolling motors
and/or up to 10 hp. gas motors. Chevelon Canyon Lake is a hike
in fishery. Access trails are at the north and south end of the
lake.
BEAR
CANYON LAKE - The lake is ice-covered. Unsafe ice conditions.
Forest roads to the lake are closed.
BLACK
CANYON LAKE - The lake is ice-covered. Expect unsafe ice
conditions. The gate to the lake is locked.
WILLOW SPRINGS LAKE - The lake is ice-covered. Expect unsafe ice
conditions.
WOODS
CANYON LAKE - The lake is ice-covered. Expect unsafe ice
conditions.
